G is for glacier, and this one is Margerie Glacier in Glacier Bay, Alaska. We spent several hours in this fjord area in 2023 and got to see this glacier calving at one point. Incredible.

Did you know before, the glacier was going to calve, or did you just have the most incredible of lucks?

Did you know before, the glacier was going to calve, or did you just have the most incredible of lucks?
Just lucky. There's no way to know it's about to happen but when it takes place there's a sudden loud crack or bang - a bit like a gun firing and echoing - then you see a section of ice at the front just slide down and crash into the water.
